Is it possible to install Lightworks to Linux Mint 18 and if so how - for a man on his first day on Linux?
Thanks

Linux users can often be expected to know enough to sort out their own problems with the OS and its interaction with applications. This is unfortunate, because it can discourage potential users of a good operating system. Mint seems to be the distro of choice for users intimidated by other versions.

I'm looking at making the leap myself, so I'm really not in a position to help you at the moment. Does the information relating to 17.3 in this thread help at all?

It's looking like when I move my version of choice will probably be Ubuntu, which Mint is based on. The recent security issues with Mint worry me. I'll be interested to see how you get on.

johncw - Welcome to Linux. 'Tis better that wisdom come late than never come at all.

1. From the LWKS site, download the Lightworks DEB file. Make sure you determine if you need the 32- or 64-bit version.

2. After download, go to your DOWNLOADS folder.

3. Right click on the downloaded file.

4. On the popup, select Open with Software Install.

5. On the window that opens, click Install.

Then make a movie and win an Oscar.

Great!

I just installed Mint18 in a VM.

Can you login into Lightworks without any usb stick or usb harddrive attached?

Do you encounter any recurring error messages in the stderr.log file (increasing filesize) during editing?

@hugly -- I'm not sure if you are questioning me, or Clive, or the Forum universe. In the off chance your questions are directed to me, here are my answers:

1. Huh?

2. Say what ???

geomcd1949,

I'm not sure if you are questioning me, or Clive, or the Forum universe.

my questions were addressed to all of those who use Linux Mint18. The only one I'm aware of is Clive but off course any answer from the forum universe is appreciated.

The reason why I asked is that I use Linux Mint17.1 in a VM and had several problems to get Lightworks running and I'm going to migrate to Mint18. Other people had problems too with other Linux distros.

In the off chance your questions are directed to me, here are my answers:

1. Huh?

2. Say what ???

Your answer indicates that you probably aren't aware of the problems my questions are related to.

1. Huh?

it refuses to install on Mint 18.3 , because of libcurl4, i don't know what to do...only the doc of libcurl4 is availlable in the synaptic.

Hello,

Please try this with most recent V14.5 beta:

$ sudo dpkg -i --ignore-depends=libcurl4 Lightworks-145RC4-105935-14.5.0.0.deb
