Well that would be nice.

When you say it's possible to sort out all my problems one by one, can you tell me what I can do to stop the above happening? Or is it different every time?

Thanks!

From you description above, I think you've encountered multiple issues. I'll have surely a few questions to understand the details.

First, if you haven't done it already, I'd suggest installing most recent V14.1 beta. It's Release Candidate 9 and it's very stable. You can get it from Downloads on top of this page.

To preserve existing versions, please specify a different destination folder when installing, something like "Lightworks V14.1 RC9" instead of "Lightworks"

To get an idea what you're working with, would you mind specifying your computer details? If you can find and post some Mediainfo reports of typical footage you work on, that would be helpful too.

I don't see any reason why your file should have sync issues - is it possible for you to send us a sample file via editshare.wetransfer.com please?

thanks, it seems we're interpreting the frame rate incorrectly, there's an additional 'pulldown' rate in your file not shown by MediaInfo - I think we can probably put in a fix for the next build. What's the origin of the file as a matter of interest, MediaInfo shows it as Apple Quicktime but I'd guess it came straight from your camera?

Thanks Fishmonger, sounds like you might be on to something. It was straight from a Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FT1 back in 2009 but has since been stored on a friends Mac and have just transferred from him to my PC to work with.

Hello!

I'm a first-time user (v14.0) and very much a beginner as far as video editing goes. I'm having similar problems to many of the previous posters.

I'll import media files into Lightworks, start clipping them, and for a while everything runs smoothly. At one point or another, though, I'll playback to check my edits and the audio will suddenly be very noticeably out of sync with the media. It seems to be a problem with the playback, as the audio track won't be physically shifted (even though the playback suggests otherwise). The audio doesn't "drift", such that it "ends up" out of sync; it's mismatched along the entire stretch of the video and is generally speaking ahead of the media. This happens seemingly randomly. Sometimes it's in the middle of an editing session, often after adding more material to my timeline. It almost always occurs after closing Lightworks and opening it back up to a saved project. It occurs both when audio and media are joined and when the audio has been captured externally, imported separately, and then synced.

Now, having read this thread (plus others like it), I've tried a few things to help fix the issue. I've...

1. Used EyeFrame Converter to convert raw footage (high-def .mov files from an iPhone 6s) to a constant frame rate.
2. After importing the converted media into Lightworks, I've created proxies internally (by right-click -> Media -> Create proxies), selected "Lowest available" under Project -> Video -> Output -> Playback media quality, and used the proxies for editing.
3. In the case of external audio, I've imported audio only files at a 29.97 frame rate to match the frame rate of the media.

Even with these fixes (which seem to work for many people across these forums), I keep running into the same issue.

MediaInfo for a clip after EyeFrame Conversion...

My PC specs are...

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-6500U CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2592 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
Memory: 16 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce, dedicated graphics (not sure which exact model)

Could any of the following help?
1. Using the latest release instead of the v14.0 stable.
2. Keeping the program files and media files on separate hard drives.
3. Creating proxies externally instead of internally.
4. Other ideas...?

Thank you all very much!

Hello and welcome!

Thank you for the detailed information.

There are many reports about randomly occuring sync issues and echoes with V14.0, but you are the first one reporting that this happens with MPEG-2 I-Frame HD together with internal proxies.

V14.5 (the current beta release) includes a lot of bugfixes related to the audio engine, it might well be that it fixes this issue as well, at least it's worth a try. You'll find most recent V14.5 under Downloads on top of this page.

Please keep us updated.

Thanks very much! Will do.

One quick question -- should I be selecting "Auto" or "30 fps" in the drop down menu when starting a new project with these files?

Use 30 fps, Auto is for people who don't know what frame rate means.

Background: Auto adjusts the frame rate of the project to the frame rate of the first imported video, but it might make trouble if the first imported thing isn't a video.

Hi again,

So far using v14.5 seems to help. One thing I've noticed is that my laptop won't play the converted files outside of Lightworks. Once I convert the original media files to a constant frame rate using EyeFrame, I get the following message when I try to play them in Windows (outside of Lightworks):

"Can't play.

Choose something else to play. This item is in a format we don't support.

0xc004f011"

Is this normal, or should those files be playable outside of Lightwork? I'll send another update soon. Thanks very much!

Window Media Player does not support MPEG2 I-Frame HD format of EFC, other media players do.

My personal favorite - Media Player Classic MPC: mpc-hc.org

From Lightworks recommendation - VLC: www.videolan.org

I would be interested in knowing how your original footage performs with V14.5. Would you do me the favour testing it?
