It's actually the compressed codec. I link VBR prores and DNxHD files all the time.

Trying to work out if it is the "high" choice or the bitrate at 5000 kbit.

I suspect it will be using the "high" profile...

It's everything. It's in the nature of the long GOP codec. If you capture with every frame an "I" frame (or at least a small "group of pictures"), the file can be processed and made available in the editor on a frame by frame basis.

P.S. Checking out for the night. Nice chatting with you.

Another pro tip for anyone using OBS Studio and VCE on the GPU, looks like if you set variable bitrate it gets stuck as variable bitrate even after you set CBR again... it doesn't seem to respect your mode choice and appears to always select variable regardless of CBR or VBR. Mediainfo will report either depending on what you recorded it seems.

In CBR or VBR mode, low intensity video (i.e. not moving) always shows as a variable bitrate.

With High intensity video (any moving video at all it seems) it goes immediately to you max set bitrate and stays there giving a fixed bitrate.

This is... very weird since there is a selector for CBR and VBR that it is clearly ignoring. This may be some function of VCE that cannot be turned off?

After experimentation it turns out the answer is neither.

It's actually the setting chosen for keyframe interval. Choosing 0 or anything above 1 appears to cause Lightworks to struggle to decode it while imported as a link.

I set it to 1 keyframe per second and it now works ok.

Thank you so much for making this post. I've been having issues with recording using Nvidia NVENC in OBS and editing in Lightworks. The switch to OBS Studio fixed the issue.

Speaking of OBS, has anyone ever had issues with some of their recordings being changed to widescreen and some being left as they were recorded?

I recorded 5 clips earlier this week, all to the exact same specifications, but when I tried to edit them, all but one were changed to widescreen, which I didn't want. It's best seen in this video at 1:47 - 3:03, which is the way I wanted it. Everything else was stretched out and I have no idea why. Is there a way I can have all the clips be in the same resolution?

I previously had this issue with the 64 bit version of OBS, which I managed to figure out how to undo, but accidentally used the 32 bit version for this recording, and I can't really undo it.

Many thanks.

Can you share the MediaInfo report on the videos that are being changed but shouldn't be?

There doesn't appear to be any pattern behind which clips this happens to. Sometimes, in the editor, they will all show up fine, but clips will be changed at random in the export process.

There are 6 videos I used, these are the reports on each one:

Thank you. Assuming you have converted vfr to cfr, resolution is probably the component causing problems. 1440x900. 1440x1080 is industry standard anamorphic type video. It is likely Lightworks is confused by the nearness to that standard of your capture.

It's a guess but if you back away from 1440 one way or another, you may see improvement.

.. you might consider that certain line counts cause the stretching.

-or possibly it's something that we used to call "random high-speed phenoma".

In other words this could be caused by something that is marginally one state or another arbitrarily selecting the display method to use. We used to get a similar problem when editing analogue video. Just such an issue would cause random horizontal shifts on edits. The fix in our case was to deliberately run the VTR slightly mis-aligned so that it would always shift in a known direction.

I think that's the clue here. Transcode your media, scaling it to 1152x720 if you want square pixels. Lightworks should interpret that as 1280x720 media, which is a standard. You will get 64 pixel-wide black margins either side, but it will work that way.
