I have an AMD Threadripper so I had no choice to move to 18.10. Even had to update to a newer kernel manually to get full support. Runs great except it often locks up when I exit Lightworks (I can live with that). Has anyone (you guys at Lightworks?) tested this on Ubuntu 19.04 yet?

Not an answer to your question, but lock ups on exit are not uncommon. Lightworks does a lot of cleanup on exit, in particular there are countless file handles to be closed by the OS.

Most people here aren't in any way associated with Lightworks. I am not and hugly is not. There are a very few Lightworks staffers that come here when they can find the time. I understand that heap management in Linux has been improved in Lightworks 14.6 which is currently in development. That may address this problem.

You *can* get lightworks running on 19.04, but you have to install libssl1.0.0 from packages.ubuntu.com, but this is not recommended and will *likely* break your system at some point in the future. Use this knowledge at your own risk. It would be fantastic if the lightworks team could update lightworks to work with libssl1.1, but I have no idea what the likelihood is of that.

Welcome to the forum.

You're not a new user, but I would suggest changing your user name to avoid attracting spam.

Thankfully, I use this account mainly for spam/stuff I don't want to get emails about. However, I don't want any more spam than I have to have so I have put in a request to change my name. Unfortunately, I can't change my name myself.

Any chance they are updating the libssl? This seems to be my major issue moving to Ubuntu 19.04 in the near future.

When the V14.6 beta testing begins you should remind them if you don't hear in the meantime, the developers sometimes post in a thread if a fix has been done in an upcoming version.

I just tried to install it and it asks for my password to do the install then fails without error and just shows the install button again.

Hi,

I suspect that's a Linux installation (Ubuntu or such) with the GUI. If so, I'm fairly convinced that Lightworks has been installed properly and if you search you'll find it..

Edit: .. Unless, it's a non supported Linux distro or most recent Ubuntu 19.04. If it's the latter, please see the first post by Uziah above

Can I just say, a universal Linux installer/container would make most of these questions irrelevant! Lightworks needs to be bundled as a Snap package or a Flatpak and ALL Linux distros would work fine with Lightworks.

I think, if it would be easy, they would have done it already, because it opens a wider market. I can't say what the drawbacks are, but devs should be able to explain.

Yes I'm trying to install it on Ubuntu 19.04.
I read the post but would rather not introduce instability. Thanks for the replies.

Ubuntu 19.04 is new and has been released after the current Lightworks release V14.5. That might explain the problem.

I can imagine that it will be addressed with the next version of Lightworks, but this might take a while for final release.

For the time being, Lightworks runs on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS very well.
