Hello all,

I wasn't sure if this was the best home for this post. But, considering video editing with Lightworks is now the most CPU heavy task I do most often - in addition to audio work (Ableton Live) - I figure this would be a question suitable for this forum. It is what I'm basing my much needed new laptop purchase on.

All that said, what would be your laptop of choice as of now in 2019, 1) overall, if money were not an issue and 2) best bang for your budget?

Something like a Dell or HP laptop workstation might fit the number one or the Apple equivalent laptops.

A basic gaming laptop with a SSD would seem to fit the second.

Thanks, bryandrys! I had the Dell XPS 15 in mind as an overall strong contender, but now that you've mentioned it- looking at the Precision 15 mobile workstation. They look sweet! Currently have a 17 inch monitor, which is just too big. Good for screen size, but if I want to size up, I'd just get a separate 24 inch monitor for working in Lightworks.

There is so much crossover between gaming vs. video production vs. audio production, it's just so subjective these days! I appreciate the recommendation.

The newer GT73 version of the MSI laptop in my signature is an excellent choice. Mine was around $1200. It is a modular expandable platform. I run mine with up to 6TB thunderbolt 3 raid attached. Cooling is excellent with separate ducted fans for CPU and GPU.
It is a heavy beast though. The smaller GT63 series is much lighter.

As a professional video editor I am using Dell XPS 15 4K laptop for editing 4k videos. The configuration of this laptop is amazing and it worth spending money on it.
