Hi

I am an occasional (non-professional) Lightworks (free) user.

The last time i used it was possibly a year ago.
I have version 12 installed.

So i want to start using it again now.
But i obviously need the newest version of the software.

So the question is should i get the 64bit or 32bit version ?

I'm embarrased to admit, but i don't know if the current LWKS version i have installed is a 32 bit or 64 bit version.

(There is no way to tell from the opening screen - as it is forcing me to get a new license).

FYI:
The Windows 7 OS i have is a 64 bit version.

Can someone please alleviate my confusion - as i want to make sure i install the correct version (since there are some uncompleted projects on my PC - and i don't want to negatively affect it by installing the incorrect version).
My specs:
OS: Windows 7 Home Basic 64 bit
CPU: Intel Pentium G630 2ghz;
Memory: 4gb
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 630

Hi jlenting, Typically the easiest way to tell is to look at the installed location of the EXE. If it is in the Program Files (x86), that is 32-bit. If it is in Program Files, then it would be 64-bit. I have never used the 32-bit version, although I would think that it follows that standard format.

I also noticed on my install, the shortcut by default on mine shows x64 in it, not sure if the 32-bit shows x86 in it.

Hope this helps you.

Hello and welcome!

The 64-bit version can address more memory than 32-bit. With 4GB of installed RAM that doesn't make a significant practical difference on your system. Both versions will work with projects created with V12.6.

I'd suggest installing V14.5 RC3 beta instead of V14.0 because of bug fixes and enhanced features.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

Your projects are compatible with all versions - you could even install both 32 and 64 bit at the same time,
