On login to win64 lightworks, when entering my login details, I get "comms integrity check failure" error. I have tried reinstalling but same thing happens. Please advise.

Hello and welcome!

That sounds more like a failure created by network, maybe wireless, rather than Lightworks, at least I haven't seen something like this yet with Lightworks.

Please show a screenshot of the message.

That's a a test-link: els.editshare.co.uk/test

What do you see clicking on it.?

Thanks for the screenshot.

It's the first time that I see this message. Unfortunatley I can't say what it means or how to fix.

I'd suggest downloading 14.1 revision 104101 from Downloads on top of this page, restarting your computer and installing it.

There might be a chance that V14.1 fixes the issue.

I have just tried to install the beta 14.1 as suggested. The earlier error has been replaced with a new one! Same situation, but now it says (in red, as before) 'Internal error A001'.

I did wonder if this is related to windows 10 'controlled folder access', as I had to allow the installer access to allow the installer to complete without errors. But even if I also add the lightworks app, I still get this error.

Any other suggestions or troubleshooting I can do?

Could be.

Please disable Defender, including controlled folder access entirely, re-install V14.1, try again and see what happens.

Years ago (old OS and old Lightworks) I had problems after enabling DEP - Data Execution Prevention for all programs.

I have beta 14.5 (x64) installed on Win 10. It seems to be related to 'Controlled folder access' only. With it enabled, LW can't login, create new projects, etc... Once it is switched off, LW works ok. No need to reboot or install older versions. If you switch CF off and then login, create project etc, you can then reenable CF and LW will work ok again until you try to do something else new.

To disable / allow access:
Goto 'Windows Defender Security Centre'. Click on the shield icon on the left hand side to go into the 'Virus & threat protection' screen. Click the blue link for 'Virus & threat protection settings'. Scroll down to 'Controlled folder access'. Either disable it while you are working in LW or add exceptions for the files with the access issues.
***Dont forget to reenable CF afterwards as this helps protect your PC from alot of nasty stuff***

To allow access, click on the blue link to 'Allow an app through controlled folder access'. Then click on '+' link and browse to the program install path.
Add the following 2 files (x64 install paths):

C:\Program Files\Lightworks\lightworks.exe - this allows the program to start and for you to get logged in.

C:\Program Files\Lightworks\ntcardvt.exe - this allows for projects to be created/modified.

@Lightworks - can you fix this access issue please - I'd rather not have to disable parts of the security on my PC just to allow your app (rather nice app BTW) to work correctly.

Thanks.

I'm not sure there's any way we can add ourselves to the whitelist, it seems the user themselves must do it for trusted programs, just as you describe..
Thanks for bringing this setting to everyone's attention,
f

Developers of software with good intention don't know, bad software - which is by the way the only reason why Defender exists - simply tunnels around, as always.

I'm not a developer so I don't know the specifics or if it can even be done. But from a bit of digging, it would seem like you may be able to have the code signed in a way that Microsoft trust it. Cant find the msdn bit but have a read over docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/device-guard/introduction-to-device-guard-virtualization-based-security-and-windows-defender-application-control and cloudblogs.microsoft.com/microsoftsecure/2017/10/23/introducing-windows-defender-application-control/ - may be of use... may not

Just checked the 2 exe files on my PC and they don't have digital signatures - that maybe the place to start. If you want to check a program to see if it signed - read answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-security/how-to-find-digital-signature-for-a-program/5fa2b8d5-c433-482d-8966-c7a28ad3695c .

Hope this helps. P.s. Lovin the new version so far.
