Hello,

There are users with AMD GPU on Linux and there's evidence that AMD GPU's perform better (with Lightworks on Linux) than NVidia GPU's with comparable specs. If you don't get further answers here, I'd suggest posting your questions in this thread:

Thanks hugly
I am in the market for a new Linux box. The old Lenovo D30 died, I have it at a friends house who might be able to resuscitate it. If not, well I am looking.
There are 2 "Computer shops" here one tech thought it was a ram problem and said it would take 1 hour to test "each" of the 16 ram modules @100$ an hour. The other shop had just the computer I needed.

Not sure what I am going to get, AMD or nVidia I have had both, I don't Really have a preference. Just have to wait and see what work turns up.

Hi kalimerox,

If you find the time, would you mind performing a GPU test with the most recent test suite and posting the average values of three runs together with your computer details (CPU, RAM, GPU, VRAM)?

I would update this spreadsheet with your results.

Intel Core i5-6200U 2 Cores Intel HD Graphics 520, UbuntuStudio 2020.04LTS 5.4.0-48-lowlatency.
Test output 720p
Test sample 00:38
Test Shaders 00:50
Test V2 02:17

Is this what you are looking for?

I tried doing a split screen edit.
This laptop is definitely not designed for editing speed.

Hi Jpaulbiss,

Thank you for making the test and posting your results. If you could add the value for the forth test, exporting the clip without any effects, I'll add them to the spreadsheet as a reference for an Intel GPU on Linux.

In my last post I asked kalimerox whether he could make some tests to report about the performance on his AMD GPU, which might help you to make your decision about the GPU of your new computer.

Hello kalimerox,

The results of the Lightworks GPU test unfortunately don't tell that much about real world performance. The test suite is better suitable for that purpose. We compare the times to export the three test sequences and the clip. You will find an archive with the most recent test suite in the post I linked to above.
