Has anyone followed Panasonic's announcement of the S1H "cinema" camera? I know it isn't a cinema camera in form factor, but this thing really has of advantages for someone like me who is shooting on a GH4 rigged like a cinema camera. Instead of chunking the GH4, use it for B-roll. Use the S1H for the A-cam.

What are your thoughts on this camera?

Hi,

I have no thought on this camera, it's too short on the market. The first question I asked myself, does the world really need 6K, now, or is this already too much and useless? Most cinemas show 2K pictures and the pictures look great.

What about the GH5s. Well tested, known on the market, optimized for video capture and, at a much lower price, presumably.
It's better to travel well than to arrive...

This camera has just been announced and isn't for yet for sale, so you won't get in depth comments in the forum.

Unless your question is post production related, I would ask questions like this on a cinematography or general video site, rather than on the Lightworks forum. You're more likely to have people who have used a particular camera and possibly done camera tests at these sites.

There is a pure video version of the GH series - the GH5s. This would allow you use your current lenses. It manages HD Tier 1 in testing for broadcasters.

Well, I asked about the S1H not the GH5S. The GH5S has been on my short list for a long time. Not interested in the S1H for the 6k. Just like I'm not interested in the GH4 for 4k. Those are capture resolutions for downsampling only, imo. I always downsample to 1080p.

Given that the 6k on the S1H is not full sensor read out, I don't consider it a 6k camera. My GH4 does full sensor read out on 4k--asI understand--where I downsample to 1080p in my little Ninja 2. I'd do the same with the S1H.

I tend to work tight in to the camera on my fishing adventure videos and a larger chip would capture greater field of view. I have a 24mm Canon FD on my GH4, and it's so cropped in, on a 12 foot little jon boat that simply isn't enough real estate in field-of-view terms.

I use Canon FD lenses exclusively; I already have and use full frame lenses. In fact I'd like to get rid of the glass focal reducer on the GH4. The S1H can do that.

I'm looking for a set up where the S1H is the main boat cam on tripod, and I keep the GH4 on a monopod for telephoto shots of wildlife and other interesting things on the river.

As I mentioned, best ask on sites that cover cameras. This site isn't a general forum, it's a specialist site for Lightworks, so it's the post production issues that should be discussed here, rather than general questions about particular cameras.

You'll find camera people who can give you an in depth analysis on the other sites.
