I've attached a corrupted .odb file. It's part of a project which can be found here:
www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=14&id=151394&Itemid=81

This file crashes Lightworks on Windows with the following symptoms:
1. Crash when project is entered.
2. Crash when trying to create a new room.
3. Crash when trying to restore items from backup(s).
4. When Rooms folder of the project is renamed/deleted Lightworks crashes at startup without granting access to the lobby.

Error.log terminates randomly, no entry is pointing to the cause of the crashes.

This behaviour is reproducible with the project I linked to above.

.. Next incident with project file attached

Could it be possible that antivirus app is causing corruption while Lightworks writes to the database? Maybe best practice should be to set an exception for the executable.

I strongly doubt that antivirus software blocks write access to this file. Please imagine how many damaged files you would have across the whole system when antivirus software would behave this way (on a text file).

I'm pretty sure that Lightworks itself, and not any obscure third party software, damages the file while crashing because of other unnecessary reasons.

Best practice would be when Lightworks would not treat a file containing only binary zeros as a valid odb file and send the system into Nirvana afterwards.

This issue is a monster bug: Zero validity check on data relevant for system stability.

The crashes reported about in the thread I linked to below are based on corrupted ED5. The project provided crashes Lightworks when trying to open "Sequence #1". After restart, when trying to open the project Lightworks gets non-responsive, at least on my Win7 system:

www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=14&id=152120&Itemid=81#152120

Please note: This crash is not based on ODB but it shows the same symptoms.

Next incident, same symptoms but three damaged files containing binary zeros only, ODB in P-folder, ODB in G-folder and one ED5 file.

Next, five corrupted files: ODB in P-folder, ODB in G-folder, ED5, ED5.U1 and ED5.U2 of last used sequence (maybe also PNG in Rooms folders, but I can't say this for sure).

Next, apparently only ODB in G-folder got corrupted, the system crashes nevertheless when trying to open the project.

This incident was caused by six corrupted files, including one file in Rooms folder.

www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=14&id=156909&Itemid=81#156909

I've attached the P-folder provided by OP and duplicated damaged files into a separate folder for convenience.

This incident shows binary zeros at the end of one error.log in Logs\Backups folder which apparently indicates the initial crash causing metadata corruption of some files in P-folder and G-folder. Remarkably, OP reports that the system hangs already during startup.

This is the first incident I’ve just encountered on my system. This incident is different from all others I've seen so far.

Obviously ED5 of one source clip got damaged after I added a Blur over a Blend over a Tri-Tone effect. As soon as I started playing that section the system started hanging.

After restart, the ED5 forces a hanging system as soon I try to enter Fixed layout. Flexible layout is not affected. The file seems to be only partially damaged.

When the affected ED5 is deleted, it's somehow replaced by Lightworks automatically and both layouts can be entered successfully.

The Error should be reproducible with the files I've attached below (at least it’s reproducible here on two separated systems Pro+Win7 and Free+Win10).

Edit: I incorrectly stated above that the ED5 is related to a clip. It's related to a sequence which explains the automatic replacement. The kind of damage and the fact that only Fixed layout is affected remain remarkable.

The recursive routing is probably not helping; How did you build that?

I have no idea, I didn't touch routing at all, will see if I can find out.

Whatever I said above, most likely I changed the routing after applying the Blur on FX1.

This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

Changing the automatic routing as shown above forces a crash when moving the playhead with the mouse outside of the Blur - instantly in VFX mnode of Fixed layout (in Flexible layout when effects panel is open).

Edit: This has now turned out to be a true off topic.

Great White,

Do you need further information how to reproduce the recursive routing ?
