TOPIC: Request: Python scripting

Request: Python scripting 3 years, 10 months ago #91923

Python is fairly straightforward to add to a C++ application, is the industry standard scripting language and would be very valuable in these ways, among others:

1. Automated import/export
If you always need to apply some action to your imported clips.

2. Automation of repetitive tasks
Because an assistant editor is not a data entry operator.

3. Better workflow through Applications Integration
Lightworks is a specialist app and so needs to be built in as a module in the pipeline. In particular, to support a good postviz workflow Lightworks would need efficient round tripping to the VFX job management system, which in both small and large projects could be bespoke and who knows what VFX software would be used. In Lightworks there is something called Assistant Application. It allows some round-tripping but is too basic.

4. Extending the application
If a rich API is published then users will be able to add their own features. This means the core product can be kept lean. It can also result in an ecosystem of plugins being published by the user base. Product development then can choose to implement any of these into the core product.

-> www.editshare.com/products/flow
a "new" flow will be released end of may.

additional APIs are available, eg. for AQC etc.
without API. www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=6&id=144532&limit=15&limitstart=15&Itemid=81#173932
