woah thanks for the tip! I didn't know that.. it's a little less discoverable than other features

Yeah I understand that I could map to certain conventions in my edits.. but they won't always be the same.

My goal is to map buttons from my ShuttlePro to more visually map to the timeline.. and switching edits... I'd need to reconfigure both Lightworks and my Shuttle configuration to keep consistent mapping.. really not ideal.

I'll experiment more with macros.. thanks for the tips.

Do you get that great 'analogue' style Jog/Shuttle on your X-Keys that I demonstrated here?

@Craig – You said at the end of your demonstration piece, “Everybody needs one,” so I got one.

I use Linux. Technical support at the company (Amber of P. I. Hardware) gave detailed instructions on how to use a Windows machine to program the Jog/Shuttle then plug it into a Linux computer. I also use the J/S to work with audio in Audacity.

Thanks for the tip, mate! I agree – everybody needs one.

Amber at P.I. Engineering is a real Gem. She assisted me with mapping some specific DaVinci Resolve features into mine but I've yet to fine tune that process. The ability to map 'mouse clicks' to dedicated buttons is a real winner and the option to press and hold a button then rotate Jog to adjust Resolve's Saturation control for example, it intriguing.

I'm working on a series of short films in Lightworks now so I've completely re-mapped my controls to a far more efficient layout so my edit speed and efficiency has improved markedly.

Would greatly appreciate if you would have time to share the re-mapped control buttons, and say how to map a mouse click to a button. I didn’t think the latter was possible.

I can but you will need to load my layout onto your K-keys and into Lightworks as well but you can always go back to your original Map. Mapping 'mouse clicks' is easy enough once set up as many will be 'cut and paste' but if you change your monitor or your screen rez, you'll need to do it all over again. Send me a PM and I'll get back to you.

Craig, even though I have a genuine console, your demonstration makes that look very tempting. The ability to use it with Resolve as well is impressive. Do I understand that means you can dynamically reassign key and jog functions? If not, how is it done?

Ah, Pauline. What a contribution you've made to Oztrilian!

I was referring to the jog commands and key presses sent by the X-keys system to the edit software. I would expect them to be different for Lightworks and for Resolve. That would mean that you would need to be able to dynamically reassign those functions in X-keys depending on which program was in use, surely.

Both Lightworks and Resolve allow any keyboard shortcut to be assigned to virtually any key so I set up the X-keys for (mostly) LW generic KB shortcuts, then I simply (because my brain only computes simple functions) changed the default Resolve keyboard commands to be the same as LW. For example, I mapped the X-keys Shuttle positions with a Centre = Stop plus the various increments for slow/back forward. X-Keys Has +/- seven positions, LW has several more so I just used the ones I wanted.

As for Jog, here again I mapped LW </> shortcuts which will work on a keyboard but not as nicely as a wheel. As you see in the Video Demo, Resolve is simply one click per frame. Better then nothing but Rohit Gupter from BMD Engineering has seen the video and is working on better Resolve Jog response on third party USB controllers. Resolve only has one KB shortcut for Fast Forward/Fast Back with Sound but that is OK.

The X-keys simply responds to the piece of software which is open at the time so with Resolve and LW open and then for example, you open MS Word, it will respond to that too. (with alarming results!)

PS: It can be 'locked' to any particular software to avoid this anomaly.

I'm Right Handed but I use the X-keys with my Left Hand and mouse in RH. Combine the two and you can work super fast, especially if you also have important Mouse Clicks mapped to X-keys.

Thanks. That's quite simple, isn't it?

By the way, I use the console with my left hand and the mouse with my right, too. I'm naturally left handed, but I went to school at the time when you got a sharp rap across the knuckles if you used your left hand for writing. The result is that I'm functionally ambidextrous - I'm equally as clumsy with either hand.

It just felt natural to use the console that way, even though the mark I was definitely designed for right-handed editors.

All the Transport controls are identical for Resolve as are many of the edit and track commands. Top two rows (in Blue) are Resolve specific.
