I'm relatively new to Lightworks. I'm a communications person for a nonprofit, not a programmer.

I'm creating a video with some live clips, but primarily photos. I'm trying to transition between photos using the Dissolve effect in VFX.

I've seen some threads about blends and dissolves in the main Edit tab but I'm using the free version and don't seem to have the same options. I can't add a blend or fade-in from Edit. When I right-click I simply don't have the right menu available.

Here's the issue:

When I add a Dissolve effect to each image - one to dissolve an image out, another to dissolve an image in - the first image just disappears when the second image/dissolve kicks in. I can't get the first image to continue dissolving; it just disappears. The transition is too abrupt.

I've also tried just using keyframes and FG opacity for each image to create a fade out/fade in. Same issue. Lightworks won't allow both images to display as one fades out and the other in; it will only display the second image.

I thought I had this working the other day... then when I came back to add more images, I found that the transition had stopped working. Is this just a bug? I'm on a very tight deadline (not my fault, sigh) and I'm frustrated that I can't figure out how to do something this simple.

I've tried all the different blend methods; I've deleted and added back the dissolves. Next I'll try deleting and adding back the photos, but I'd love to just find a simple solution.

Thanks for any help you can offer!]]>

Simple white background...not so simple? - by: I would expect V3 (third layer, which is just a Whit matte jpeg)) to show behind V1 and v2, but somehow it is still black.
I've also looked at routing - and there does not seem to be anyway of feeding a background INTO V1 or V2 - there are no background/foreground connectors for this.
Any help is graciously appreciated ]]>

How to show both FX1 and V1 ? - by: RuthSmart I am editing a video where I have created an FX1 track for subtitles, a V1 with a watermark as well as a V2 with the actual video clip.
However, on playback V1 is only visible if I mute FX1.
How do I show both together ?
Thanks, VRS]]>

Colour banding - by: schrauber Topic color banding:

We are currently experimenting with different to reduce different types of color banding.

The effect "Artifacts-blur" reduces color banding, which is visible due to compression artifacts in imported low-quality material.

The effect "Uncontour" reduce colour banding by position diffusion (generates image noise). This can also reduce the minimum 8-bit color banding that is sometimes visible on 8-bit monitors. This may require a high bitrate export, which needs to be tested.

For developers:

EDIT: At this point I originally introduced a tool for developers (effect). I hid the original text and file behind this spoiler (And added some comments).

.. How about about a Diffusion transition?
.. If you could provide it, I will try it.

Okay, the effect as a prototype:

If you want, you can develop this further.]]>
