I know this has been raised before,
But it still isn’t fixed, or mentioned in the known bugs.

Material is Red Native DCI 4K footage some is coming up flagged as 16.9, some just as DCI 4K (see photo).

Making Lightworks proxies of the DCI 4K flagged rushes gives the wrong aspect ratio and makes them pretty much unusable.

It appears that although they are shot on the same day, same camera, the rushes are shown on the Lightworks import panel as: some as 7168 x 3780, some 4096 x 2160, others 5120 x 2700.

On version 14.5 the proxies are all OK, but I would prefer to use 2020.1 as it handles all the different formats and speeds that this 48TB project contains.]]>

No doubl headed arrow on cursor - by: Tom Johansen I have used Lightworks for 2 days on two different pc`s. Great program, but on one pc the double headed arrow disappeared. Going back and forth on a segment it just jumps from left to right bracket for trimming. I to zoom in and out with no luck. And yes I have tried to get as close to the middle in the segment as possible. Even so close that if I tap my desk it jumps to opposite side bracket.

On my second pc it works like a charm.

Lightworks crashes, when I am trying to open a project - by: Zdar vrat mi muj projekt Bugs Thu, 24 Sep 2020 11:47:25 +0000 Lag in preview while editing - by: Materonix
So I've downloaded the free version of Lightworks just to make speedpaints and really basic editing for school projects. Since the time I first imported a .mkv file to the program, I noticed that the video in the preview buffered and lagged while editing, which threw me off a lot because the video itself looked just fine. Anyway I added some music and my commentary and the audio worked just fine, but the video just kept lagging. I exported it and the vide turned out ok; no lagging, no buffering, everything looked smooth. And the same happenned yesterday with a speedpaint I did which I recorded now in .mov file, in the preview it kept lagging every 2 seconds or so but when I exported the video, again, everything was smooth and beautiful.

Is there something I can tweak inside of the program so it doesn't keep happening? Could it be my computer? It's really an office laptop so I don't know if the hardware could ultimately be the problem, and if it is, would the solution be just to ignore it and hope everything keeps turning out ok?]]>

Lwks crashing when importing photos - by: SW4FILM
I'm continually experiencing problems when trying to import photos, regardless of whether I create a new project specifically for importing the photos only, altering the setting to mixed frame rates or auto. It doesn't seem to matter whether I try importing jpegs, raw, or iPhone pics. The same problems apply.

I don't have this issue with importing film files, which are mostly 4k.

I'm using the latest LWKS version on a Mac attached to an external 10TB G drive.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.]]>

Keyframes will not set correctly...they jump around - by: CarlyFieg
On a 2D DVE, I have difficulty setting the X position the way I want. For some reason, when I fine tune the x position, it jumps around, so that I can't set it the way I want.

Probably a poor description. But, the video shows it pretty well, I think.

My apologies in advance that the video's aspect ratio got messed up when I converted it to mp4. I think it is still clear and tells the story (I hope).

Thanks so much for your help.]]>

Memory Leak (?) in creating Proxies from h265 - by: SchwobaSeggl
So I started "Make Proxies", Cineform 720p low quality, and went of to the grocery store. When I returned, Lightworks had gone, and the Linux system log said:

Out of 15 files, LWKS had managed to create proxies for 4, it got killed in the middle of #5.

I can reproduce this behaviour. When I don't go to the grocery store but watch the memory consumption of LWKS/ntcardvt in htop, I can see it constantly climbin, starting at approx. 14gb, now at 23.5gb at clip #4… so impossible to work with large h265 files, rendering proxies from those will never finish.

I run LWKS from lightworks-2020.1-r122068-amd64.deb on Ubuntu 18.04

Upgrade from 14.5 to 2020 affected audio on one project - looking for help - by: PaulDadson
As the title says, I upgraded from 14.5 to 2020 and noticed that my current project's audio seems to be slowed down slightly (my voice is slightly deeper) and its not aligned with the video tracks.

I redownloaded 14.5 and initially, my project played with the correct audio synced up and everything. But now when I access the project in either 14.5 or 2020 the distortion is back and audio is out of sync.

Any suggestions/ advice would be appreciated, I was nearly done that project and don't want to restart haha.]]>

MPEG-4 based exports or proxies all produce a file length encoding error - by: David Rasberry

And the audio and timeline offsets reported here:

Here is a Mediainfo comparison of H.264-MP4 exports from a 236 frame 24fps Cineform master with similar settings from Lightworks and from Acrovid Intertake, which is frame accurate:

The export length error shows up in all MPEG 4 based codecs whether long GOP or I-frame: AVCHD, AVC-Intra, P2-AVC intra, XAVC intra or long GOP, XDCam etc. It is consistent at 9.885 second length vs 9.834 for accurate exports
Non MPEG-4 codecs do not show the issue: Matrox HD422, DVC-pro, DPX or any other frame sequence format, or Cineform. They all match the master for length.]]>

Faulty archive is called "Completed" at the end of the log. - by: schrauber

However, at the end of the log I see in green letters:

This is confusing, and I have to search the complete list for red letters after each backup to avoid archiving faulty backups.

Restoring these corrupted backups will crash the project.

More information about the causes of the faulty archive:

- The error is related to strict access rights to the backup drive (add allowed, changes and deletion are blocked)
- The faulty backup is created during the first backup of the project (after Lightworks has been started).
- Subsequent backups are created without errors.
- After restarting Lightworks the first backup is again faulty.

- Incorrectly archived file: "E0054BM8.ed5" (belonging to a clip element where I had changed "Custom metadata" the day before.
- The faulty file has the modification date of the backup creation, (original date is older), and 0 kB:

For comparison the correct archive with correct modification date and file size (sorted by modification date):

Win 10 Home (Version 1909)

The error occurred with these special Windows security settings (German version):

I have now switched to default security settings ..

.. where this error does not occur.

But this does not change the fact that in case of faulty backups I want to see a clear red error message at the end of the log (maybe a more aggressive warning in addition).

It would also be good if this status would be saved in the archive itself after a successful faulty backup. Then Lightworks could warn the user when restoring an archive that does not contain a valid success status file.]]>

Titles partially missing in export - by: madjarov42
Enter the new update - suddenly, the character spacing/kerning is all wrong if I use a keyframed size. It wouldn't work right until I changed the font to vanilla Bahnschrift but that looked terrible. I changed it to Bebas and made peace with non-keyframed size. Fine.

NOW, it doesn't even export the damn font. It only exports half of the text that appears on the screen. At first the opposite happened: It wouldn't preview properly but the export was fine. I thought, okay that sucks but I can work with it. Now the preview is fine and the export is broken.

Blue circle of death on complex timeline AMD Windows 10 only, Lightworks 2020.1 - by: lunderb
Intel Windows 10 64bit PC specs (project runs perfectly smooth, no problems)
Intel 7700 processor
16GB ram
Media stored on m.2 hdd
GPU Nvidia 1080 GTX

AMD Windows 10 64 bit PC specs (timeline has constant blue circle of death)
AMD Ryzen 7 3700x
32gb ram (DDR4, 3200 Mhz)
Radeon RX 5700XT GPU 8GB ram
Media stored on m.2 hdd

When I hover over timeline, the blue circle of death constantly comes up. CPU is barely 5% in total on the PC. Video of experience is attached.

I've tried uninstalling 2020.1 64 bit and re-installing 14.5 64 bit but the problem is the same. I've also turned off the thumbnails on the timeline and that makes no difference.

An observation is that on the Intel PC, the CPU definitely gets to work when I hover over the timeline, however on my AMD Windows 10 setup, the CPU is barely moving. It's as if there's a problem with using AMD CPU on a complex timeline on Windows 10.

I have some more simple projects, and on the AMD machine I am not getting the blue circle of death.

Out of frustration I have also installed Linux (Unbuntu) on a separate SSD on the same AMD based hardware and the timeline works totally as per the Intel based PC with windows 10. What am I missing?]]>

Also, while testing it happened that Lightworks started to mix the original and the proxy sound which means the underlying logic is capable of switching between original audio and proxy audio on the fly.
