Cine Maker – Giving Video the Look of Film
- Temporal conversions match the motion characteristics of film
- Film grain insertion to match the appearance of film stock
- Colorspace processing increases flexibility
- Make DV or Beta look like 16mm
- Make HDV or HDCam look like 35mm
Several factors contribute to what is perceived as the look of film originated material. A film’s frame rate, the film stock’s grain structure, and the film’s exposure latitude give a distinctive appearance to film captured material. imageEnhance Cine Maker combines powerful temporal processing, grain insertion, and colorspace processing algorithms to make video-based material look as if it were shot on film.
The temporal processing performed by Cine Maker gives motion the distinctive appearance of film while maintaining maximum image resolution. PixelMotion™ de interlacing of video-originated material produces either a 24Fps or 30Fps intermediate format based on user selection in preparation for further processing. If 24Fps is selected, a 2:3 sequence is inserted to reconstruct the output image. For 30Fps, a 2:2 sequence is inserted.
Simulated film grain may be inserted into the image to further enhance the appearance of film. Controls that adjust the intensity and type of grain enable the desired look to be selected. Color processing is enhanced through colorspace manipulations. The user can select from preprogrammed conversions or make custom adjustments to match a desired look.
imageEnhance Cine Maker Features:
Grain Insertion
Inserts simulated grain into the image. Controls allow for adjustment of the grain size and intensity individually for the three component channels.
Conversion Control
Controls the temporal aperture used to convert the interlaced video material to the respective progressive format. It will determine the amount of blur or judder introduced in the conversion process. |
Detail Enhancement
Extracts hidden detail buried in the image using this edge-sharpening filter based on a traditional film compositing technique called “Unsharp Masking”.
Colorspace Conversion
Fully Automatic, but allows varying color primaries and luma equation for non-standard inputs and outputs.
Pre-Compression Processing – Increasing the Quality of Compressed Video
- Advanced Noise Reducer removes random and high frequency noise
- Increases bit-rate efficiency and image quality
- Real-time Unsharp Mask filter for enhancing detail
Teranex increases bit-rate efficiency and image quality with powerful Spatial Noise Reduction, Temporal Recursive Noise Reduction, and Brickwall filters that remove noise without sacrificing the detail of the content.
imageEnhance Pre-Compression Processing removes random noise and controls the bandwidth to the encoder allowing higher compression efficiency. As content distributors add more channels, the compression ratio for each channel is decreased, thus increasing MPEG artifacts in the image. Teranex´s pre-compression processing helps removes artifacts while leaving the detail of the image intact. This allows content distributors to increase their channel capacity while maintaining the overall quality of their product.
imageEnhance Features:
Temporal Recursive Filter
Per-pixel motion adaptive, noise adaptive filter reduces random noise while avoiding the motion artifacts and softness that non-adaptive techniques can generate. |
Brickwall Filter
Brickwall filtering allows precise control over bandwidth limiting prior to compression, enabling the encoder to provide more consistent results at low bit rates.
Detail Enhancement
Extracts hidden detail buried in the image using this edge-sharpening filter based on a traditional film compositing technique called “Unsharp Masking.”
Post-Compression Processing – Removing Unwanted Compression Artifacts
- MPEG Artifact Reducer removes Mosquito Noise and Blocking Artifacts
imageEnhance MPEG Artifact Reducer removes DCT compression artifacts common to MPEG, WMV9, AVC, and DV material. As content providers increase their channel offerings, the bandwidth or the amount of data distributed for each channel is decreased, thus increasing compression artifacts. Teranex’s MPEG-AR helps remove artifacts while leaving the detail of the image intact. This allows content distributors to increase their channel capacity and maintain the overall quality of their product.
imageEnhance Features:
Mosquito Noise Reduction
Segments the image into edge and near-edge components and applies an adaptive filter to remove “busy-ness” around the edges of objects created by low bit-rate encoding. |
SD & HD Noise Reduction – Cleaning up Video Noise
- Advanced Noise Reducer removes random and high frequency noise
imageEnhance Advanced Noise Reduction reduces electronic and other random noise accumulated in the production and post-production process and reduces compression and electronic artifacts by eliminating high frequency noise.
imageEnhance Features:
Temporal Recursive Filter
Per-pixel motion adaptive, noise adaptive filter reduces random noise while avoiding the motion artifacts and softness that non-adaptive techniques can generate.
Detail Enhancement
Extracts hidden detail buried in the image using this edge-sharpening filter based on a traditional film compositing technique called “Unsharp Masking”.
