Phaas told me to ask the forum Moderator CookieCutter this: I have a Lightworks console MK1. I currently connect it to my HP computer with the Lightworks Cable i made and a Serial to USB connector. I also use the console initialization tool to make it work. Now will it be able to work with a Lenovo Thinkpad?

I don't have one of the consoles but I have some experience trying to use those Serial to USB adapters, which would be the only place I would imagine an issue would come in since you already have it working on one computer. The HP versus Lenovo should not cause an issue. The thing that could cause an issue is the OS. Does the Thinkpad have the same OS as the HP? If so I would think it should work fine. The adapter I had, had issues in Linux and would only work at certain speeds (not all the speeds the adapter was supposed to support.) The adapter work fine in Windows Vista at all the speeds it said it would but the manufacture supplied drivers for that OS but not for Linux.

If you didn't have it working already on a computer I'd say to make sure the adapter supports the speed the console runs at and then make sure the device has proper drivers for the OS you are using so that you know it will actually work at that speed.

I was running Windows vista and it was working fine. Does this mean it won't work with 7?

I have it running with a console on W7, but I'm using an older ASUS motherboard with in-built serial ports.

I've run tests with a friend's late-model W7 system using both a PCI RS-232 port and a USB to RS-232 adapter. We needed the third-party console initialization utility, and the console was not very reliable in that environment. It failed to start more often than it started.

Purely referring to the adapter; I would guess it would work with win7. My experience with win7 has been that things have worked better in win7 than Vista. That saying I have not attempted to use my adapter with my new computer (I was using it with an old prototype board I have and I have not messed with it in a while.) I would search the internet to see if others are having success with the adapter you have in win7. If not I would imagine you should be able to find an adapter that would work.
