In this thread they're talking about the video track, not audio track. So no, I don't think other people expect that the audio track should be muted when you delselect it from being edited on the timeline.

So they expect the video track to stop playing but not the audio track? That wouldn't make sense.

They expect the video track to not show, e.g. to view a clip on a track below.

So when you cut a music video and deselect the audio tracks so that you won't cut them, the audio would get muted, that does make sense to you?

Hi cyrillekazis,

It is not possible to mute a video clip, but it is possible to mute a video track by simply clicking the track button on the left of the timeline.

I'm not sure if I understand correctly what this user wants, but in the old Lightworks VIP software you could route every videotrack where ever you want. (invisible, to monitor 1... and so on) rarly used it but it was possible!

The logic and reasons why these functions are separate are:

Deselecting a track on the stripview changes its behaviour while editing; trimming, inserting, deleting etc. but typically one still wants to hear it.

The tracks are solo'd muted and assigned to 'mixes' in the audio control panel. Often one may still want to trim the track even if it is muted - an editor knows the adjustments needed on all tacks when trimming. In multi-track trims that are not in a straight line down the stripview only one playhead position is heard - so trimming a cut unheard is commmon practice.
