Just for kicks, what is the native resolution of your display? I didn't notice it in the thread anywhere.

1600x1200 but I don’t capture in fullscreen. I use FSX in windowed mode and then set the size of the window to the pixel size I need by trial and error using MediaInfo to size small clips for me. I won't go into details but I do this as it allows me to loose all the ingame screen clutter. For some reason I was unable to capture natively in 1436x1077. I could get a window 1432x1076 but just couldn’t hit those magic numbers. 1432x1076 wouldn’t import at all.

Tried the transcoding to 1436x1077; while this did import at 4:3 it flipped it upside down and killed the quality. I checked the output from AD and it looked fine before import. Not only that but the file size exploded by 400% <- not a Lightworks issue I know but a tad unmanageable on my meagre resources.

The widescreen mode made no noticeable difference. I think you probably need a widescreen monitor.

We saw the flipping issue earlier in this thread. It stated just after I upgraded to the latest release.

I had a good feeling about these little tweaks. Especialy the 1436x1077 - Gutted.

Did you try 1280x960? Also, I looked at the widescreen forum again and realized there wasn't anything helpful there. Sorry. Anyway, I did another search and found someone that said you can manually change the resolution in that same FSX.cfg file. Look for "Mode=?" without quotes. Possibly without the question mark too. The person just said to replace the question mark with the custom resolution. Mode=1436x1077? I don't know but you can mess around. Also make sure that you reset the old hack to "WideViewAspect=False".

Update: Actually I just found a Tips/Tweaks guide for FlightSimX, here, and it lists the following.
Mode=1280x1024x32
Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600) :: 4GB :: 1TB :: Nvidia GeForce GTX 470 :: Windows 8 x64 :: Lightworks 11 Free

I can make a mpeg/mpeg2 high 1440 (1440x1080x30) in avidemux. What do I do now to make it editable?

Were you able to get any further?

Not sure! I created a file with AVIdemux using the "Mpeg2 (ff)" preset and it imports into Lightworks black. It's probably best to use a different codec.

I tried the 1280x960, 30fps but got the little green thumbnail on the import so no luck there. I tried all the import settings from PAL to 1080p but it wouldn't recognise the clips.

The FSX.cfg mode edit adds the fullscreen option to the list of available ingame resolutions. when I first tried it I though this wasn't going to work for me as I need to record in windowed mode - however, thinking on it as I write this it's possible that I could get an ingame screen free of HUD clutter for fullscreen so I'll give this a bash and let you know.
