TOPIC: .MOV files Codec unsupported?

.MOV files Codec unsupported? 2 years, 3 months ago #18238

Hi,
I'm using Lightworks public Beta 10.0.4.1

I'm trying to import videos. My files are .MOV files, but it says Codec Unsupported. Are these the wrong files and if so, how to I convert them?

Thanks,
Hannah

Hi,
What codec are the QT files? Where did the files originate? Although Quicktime files are supported, not all codecs are available under the Beta license.

@Bannnerbonanza

Just wanted to explain antboy's comment a bit more.

Quicktime (like AVI) is a Container, which means that it's just a way of "wrapping" codecs (compression formats) so that they can be used in a standard way by programs. You can think of a container in the same way as those metal boxes that you see piled up on cargo ships. To the shipping operator, it doesn't matter what's in them. They're all the same size, and they all have the same mechanism to mount them, whether on a ship, a truck or a train.

Insider the container, you can have quicktime, MPEG, H.264 etc, so this is what we would need to know to see why your system isn't working.

Download a tool like Mediainfo, and put its report in the body of your next post.

Ok, I'm not really sure if the info below is the report or not, but here's what it gave me on one of the videos I used. Let me know if there's anything wrong with it. Thanks for your help!

Hi bannerbonanza,

Have you got Quicktime installed on your system?

Re: .MOV files Codec unsupported? 2 years, 3 months ago #18315

Yes, I installed the newest version of Quicktime

Re: .MOV files Codec unsupported? 2 years, 3 months ago #18324

Hi bannerbonanza,

Was Quicktime installed before Lightworks was installed?

Re: .MOV files Codec unsupported? 2 years, 3 months ago #18341

Yes it was. Ever since I restarted my computer now, I don't have an error on that. Now it says that the frame rate is not supported. Now how do I fix this? Sorry for all the trouble!

Hi bannerbonanza,

The frame rate of the clip must match the frame rate of the project you have created. You will need to create a 24fps project to import your clips correctly.
