TOPIC: LW Not Responding on first startup.

LW Not Responding on first startup. 1 year, 2 months ago #20244

Had trouble getting LW open for the first time. Reinstalled a couple of times and would continue to get LW Not Responding. Watchdog would try to restart to no avail. Uninstalled Matrox VFW Codecs and this time LW opened. Question, do I need to reinstall Matrox after the next restart? I will be working with an HD Camcorder. Can't wait to get started with LW. Thanks all.

Question for you: How many times have you read the full user's manual?

Did you right click on the LW shortcut and select "run as administrator". You need to do this on Vista and above.

Hence why I asked about reading the manual. This is there, on the installing guide as well, which is a very short text actually.

I would say 99% of those who download LW install it before reading the manual. It's just human nature these days, i.e. the desire for instant gratification.

I used to build model cars and planes when I was a kid and wouldn't use the instruction sheet that came with it. I always had pieces left over.

Did run as administrator at the begining. Made no differance.

Did you run all the installers "as an administrator"?

As I said it's working. Back to the original question. Do I need Matrox?

I'm not sure if it's absolutely required but you may run into more problems on export. Try importing and exporting some small clips and see what happens. Without the Matrox codecs you will be limited to quicktime and the Lightworks avi codec for export and transcoding.

Made a fresh Windows 7 install and after installing LW had the same problem.
Read this post unistal the Matrox codecs launch LW, works.
Restart mi laptop, reinstall the matrox pack, launch LW, works.
Also it´s all about restart the PC before installing the Matrox..

Had the same problem with XP.
I have added xmlLite.dll in the system32 folder and Lightworks has started successfully.
Check if xmlLite is installed.

I had the same problem of watchdog killing LW. I uninstalled Matrox codec and LW started correctly. I created a dummy project and exited. I installed again Matrox codec, and then watchdog killed LW.

Then I started LW and canceled the watchdog popup before it killed LW, I waited about 20 second and it finally started. Now I can restart LW without issue.

I simply think you should allocate more time to LW for initial start-up.
