[SOLVED] Importing clips causes a crash on vista 2 years, 4 months ago #5010

Every time I try to import clips on windows vista, I either get a crash or it crashes when I try to add them to my edit/timeline. I am really excited for LW, but if I can't do anything... it's probably just vista

To make Vista more 'civilized', user-controlled & compatible with 'the rest of the world' - look here and here. Also, remember that Vista Business license allows you to 'downgrade' to XP legally.

Well, i have the exact same problem with windows 7.
Window Vista has been available now for 5 years, i don't think anybody is waiting for a program that requires downgrading to an OS that is over 10 years old to make it work.
I needs to be addressed and fixed, it as simple as that.

Please read this for current codec support. This article also includes an address where you can upload small examples of clips that are causing you problems. Lightworks is absolutely not restricted to running on Windows XP: all the latest development work is done on current versions of Windows.

The more information you can give us about your source material, the more help we can give you.

It was a friendly advice based on my 20 years of experience with DAW/NLE on PC workstations and Windows OSes. If you need to be addressed and fixed - deliver proper information, as described here. It's as simple as that.

Yup, just updated it a few days ago. Both 10.0.1 and 10.0.3 had the same problem. Might be the codecs, but they're nothing special, just uncompressed avi's or an mpeg or two...maybe it's just me

If you could zip and attach the contents of users\public\documents\Lightworks\Logs, that will give us the best chance of figuring out what's causing your instability. Thanks.

Sorry, i didn't get that that you where only giving advise.
It's just that there has never been a free professional video editor for windows and i would really like to see this succeed.
I would also love to see many people using this, that's why i would like it to become reliable and support lots of video formats.

Anyway, after trying to import some smaller mpeg1 and 2 clips i found out that it is possible to import the smaller ones (25 to 84 mb) without Lightworks crashing.
However, the larger mpeg2 clip of about 575 mb makes Lightworks crash.

What i am under the impressing of, of what is happening, is when the import is taking place, windows thinks Lightworks is no longer responding and shows a dialog that counts down before terminating Lightworks.
The import of the somewhat larger mpeg clips (60-84mb) also show that dialog, but seem to finish the import before the countdown finishes, so Lightworks is then not terminated.

Please find attached the logfiles.

I think there may be some problem with importing the sound in your media, you could check this by selecting Picture only when you import.
If that works then could you upload a sample for us to analyze?
Choose 'Support' at the top of the page, click 'Upload' and then fill in the details.

It can't transcode, and creating a link makes a clip of the same length, but all black, and as soon as it finishes playing, it crashes to desktop with no error...still want a sample of the clip? ima try another one

it appears it was the video file. i tried a different one and it worked. Issue resolved I guess?

I dont think so...
I have the same behavior.
Small clips seems to be OK, the same codec but longer clips and LW is shutting down.
I have longer clips no more, but i will try it again...
