TOPIC: Panning across a panoramic image

Panning across a panoramic image 11 months, 4 weeks ago #23433

Hi
I'm very new to this having previously used Sony Vegas and as such I find LightWorks rather daunting and non-intuitive. However, I will struggle on and attempt to use it.
My first project is to import a panoramic image (dimensions 20000px x 2620px and create a video that pans across the image from left to right. I've not yet been able to do this so my questions are:
Is it possible to do this in LightWorks?
and if so
How might I go about it?

@DavidAllen23

Stay with it: that's exactly the path that I took (ie I used to use Vegas!) , and I made it, and now I love it.

What you need for your image manipulation is a DVE, but there may be an issue with the size of the image. Because of the way we treat images as "textures" for GPU acceleration, it may not work if it's bigger than around 8000 pixels along any dimension there could be an issue, in which case, you'd have to downsize your image (I'm just recalling something one of the developers said to another user today but cant' find it right now.

Mmm...
If only there was a manual. I've searched for a tutorial on using DVEs but there doesn't appear to be one. Furthermore, the tutorials appear to be for the beta version that seems to be somewhat different to the latest.
I guess this will take a lot of precious time to figure by trial & error.
Is there a manual with the Pro version?

I'm curious about this too. I see in other videos and something I used myself in Premiere. Is it possible to zoom on photos or pan up or acoss? Makes stills a lot more interesting to view. Or would I have to create a clip with some other software and then add it to lightworks?

I usually do things like this in After Effects and then bring them into whatever NLE I'm using. It's keyframe smoothing makes the beginning and ending of the move look a lot better. Plus, I find dealing with the big graphics files in the NLE just bogs the system down. Easier to just import a movie file with the move already done.

re the width of the image

could you cut up the image into "panels" and pan across them as individual photos, but follow a path that makes the pan seamless from one panel to the next? This would at least allow you to use smaller, more manageable files for the process. 20,000 pixels is a heck of a wide image for a NLE timeline.
