TOPIC: Linux video

Re: Linux video 1 year ago #22358

I assumed that the devs would be using nvidia cards

It wasn't a deliberate choice - just happens that my machines have ATI cards in.

Either way, I assume that you're using AMD's catalyst drivers instead of the radeon drivers?

I honestly have no idea - I stuck with whatever Ubuntu picked when I installed it. I'm sure that as we start to look at performance more, this kind of thing will become more critical.

Bear in mind that Lightworks hardly draws any polygons - as few as two per frame - it's fill-rate and transfer speeds that are more important.

Cool, thanks for the info - I appreciate it.

I think that Ubuntu will use the radeon drivers unless you go out of your way to install the Catalyst ones.

Looking forward to being able to use Lightworks on linux. I think I missed the boat for signing up as a linux alpha tester but I'll keep my eyes open to see if I can help at all with testing.

Fedora has been most of what I've played with, and that has been pretty basic stuff. I've also started fooling with OpenIndiana which is supposed to be the sprt of reference design for the illumos core... It feels similar to OpenSolaris but doesn't seem to run as fast so I'm not sure if it is just a driver issue or something else. Decided there are too many bugs to suggest porting to it right now.
