It seems like about 5 years ago the whole business started to switch from tape based to file based, even news gathering. So USB 2.0 or card readers are much more common, than FireWire...

And with the speeds of the new USB 3.0 I can see firewire getting thrown out with the proverbial bath water.

The switchover from tape to file is physiological and natural, even due. The problem is that support for the interface has been terminated much faster than the turnover of the equipment that used it, at least at the low end.

I don't know enough about USB 3, but whoever has tried to compare Skype with technology from the 1870s (telephone) can appreciate the difference between being fast and being suitable for sustained throughput, even at a lower average rate.

It is said that Lightworks for Linux, will be ready for the next Ubuntu release. That is in five weeks!
Is that true?
I relly hope so. Kdenlive is okay, but Lightworks looks really good! Never tried it myself, and I have no Windoze PC around.

It's only the Alpha version that's being released. But the more helpful feedback we get the faster we can get through the testing stage.
