I'm having trouble, every time lightworks tries to play the all of the FX tracks together it stutters. After that, it will not play audio and video in sync. I have to exit the program and reenter and it will work again (until it plays the FX tracks).

I remembered that it gives me this message when loading,
"virtual address space is 2.0gb, please use /3GB/userva=2900 (or bcdedit/ set increaseuserva 2900) option for optimal performance"

I thought "Sure! That must be the problem!"

But I went to change my virtual memory only to be dissappointed. I have 3Gb of ram, and my virtual memory is already set to Max: 7106Mb Min: 16Mb

So now I don't know what to do. Any one know what's going on?]]>

Won't import files, even directly from camera! - by: SteffG http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=45768&Itemid=81#45768 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=45768&Itemid=81#45768

Any suggestions? Is it likely a driver issue? Or am I totally screwed until I re-install the OS? :-/ If so, how smoothly does this software work on XP? My old PC has XP. Just hesitant to use it b/c it's a bit of a dinosaur with a "slow moving vehicle" sign attached to it at this point. It's okay to use MS Office & other programs/apps, but worthless to go online! (Like riding a trike on the freeway.) So if I have to edit on there & upload online, it might take a millennium. Which is a bit past my deadline. ]]>

Bad relinking - by: mdavidthomson http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=45147&Itemid=81#45147 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=45147&Itemid=81#45147
Now I assumed this was the same issue that I had had previously: I'm using link footage and my external drive letters had changed. I'm using a laptop so when I'm not cutting I often need to move the machine and unplug my external drives.plug them in in the wrong order and the drive letters change.

So anyway, I put my drives back in exactly the same letter order as previously but new problems cropped up. I had not touched the media on the linked to drive in this time. Hadn't even touched the drive.

First, several files (4 or 5 out of 30-40) started looking as if a dve effect had been applied zoomed into the top left corner. I assumed this was some sort of resolution error. Couldn't figure out what was going on. But I had to go to a meeting taking my laptop so I unplugged everything and planned to fix it later.

Then when I returned I plugged everything n and... Media offline again. Putting the drive letters back in order didn't work. Everything was still offline, but i had to edit so I tried a relinked and pointed lightworks to the original media. But that only compounded my problems.

Now my edit is totally wrong. The media is right, but its as if all the in and out points in the edl are out. ie. the media of john's close up is in the edit, at the right place in the timeline but instead of the correct in/out on the media i get the 2nd take clapperboard from halfway through the clip. I get this for about about 90% of my edit. It's a bit of a disaster, to put it mildly.

Again, source media hasn't moved or changed. All clips are in ProRes422 and I imported using link to.]]>

What is the recommended HD codec for editing? - by: fgeierst http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=44396&Itemid=81#44396 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=44396&Itemid=81#44396 www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=240&Itemid=81

www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=27&id=23721&Itemid=81
for me it's not clear yet.

To edit a variety of file formats from mobile devices to various hd cameras, also footage coming from other editing programs like premiere - what file format / codec should i work with or convert my files into? any best practices?

also in terms of performance on not too fast system.

thks,

How do you think LW media management compares to Avid's? - by: Oridin http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=44220&limit=6&limitstart=12&Itemid=81#44220 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=9&id=44220&limit=6&limitstart=12&Itemid=81#44220
One thing I like about Media Composer's media management is the ability to apply criteria or filters for searching. LW has something similar but seems to work in a not so useful way. You can for example choose to search in description, name, etc. But if you want to filter down some more you have to basically start a new search. MC on the other hand gives you the ability of keeping just adding more and more filters and filtering it down as much as you can. You don't need to start a new search. Another thing is that in MC you just need to type a word. You don't need to specify if it's a name, description or whatever. Maybe you don't know. So it will bring up anything with that criteria. LW for example wont. If you want to find all clips with reference to John but type it in the name field and John is only under the description LW wont bring that clip up.

Then there are things like phrase finder, script search etc which are really handy in MC. By the way I only bring up Avid because this is my reference. Not here to knock. Here to learn. So maybe I'm just using it wrong. Would love to hear tips and advice about LW's media management from the seasoned users out there. Thank you.]]>
