I had to hard reboot my computer yesterday, and now my Lightworks project is saying I need a skeleton password to open my project. Where do I get this from? I think I set my machine to 2.

thanks

Windows XP Blues... - by: henryten http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46704&Itemid=81#46704 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46704&Itemid=81#46704
I do volunteer media training for overseas non-profits. Editing is always the toughest challenge. Many computers are still operating in Windows XP whilst some (a few) are on Macs. I've been looking for free or cheap basic, user-friendly, cross-platform NLE software (less expensive and intimidating then Premiere Pro).

Is it possible that the new iteration of Lightworks will be XP friendly?

Thanks]]>

[Solved with a work-around] 32bit 11.1.j on Win7 64bit - No Material Drives Available - by: khaver http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46281&limit=6&limitstart=6&Itemid=81#46281 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46281&limit=6&limitstart=6&Itemid=81#46281
11.1.j installed OK and I right clicked and selected "Run as administrator". The UAC box came up and I clicked "Yes". Lightworks opened up and I was able to enter the activation code, create a new project, add some black and colorbars effect to the timeline and close Lightworks.

Now I've been telling everyone that they only need to right click on the shortcut and select "run as administrator" once. Well, the next time I opened Lightworks I got the warning about not having any material drives. I closed Lightworks and did the right click, run as administrator thing, and clicked yes on the UAC dialog and LW opened up fine again.

I'm fairly new to Windows 7 and UAC (I need to learn since I'm the network administrator where I work and any computers I'll need to replace (XP and 2000, yes 2000) will have Win7 or 8 on them).

In the compatibility tab of the shortcut's properties I can check the box, Run as administrator, and LW will see my c: drive OK, but every time I open LW I will have to click yes on the UAC dialog. I do not want to disable UAC.

Can any one help please?

PS I did search the forum but couldn't find a definitive answer.]]>

Free license good for year? - by: ChrisMcLaughs http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46192&Itemid=81#46192 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46192&Itemid=81#46192 I am new to Lightworks and have a question.
While reading the activation email sent to me, the email states that the free activation code is good for 1 year only.
Does this mean that I will lose access to the free license and application after one year? Or after 1 year does another activation get sent if I need it/to reactivate?
I like the way this program looks but do not wish to use it if it's only good for one year and then I am forced to get the pro version or not be able to use the free license.

Thanks for your answers!]]>

[Solved] Does Lightworks spread its processes over a quad-core processor or only dual-core - by: timzett http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46158&Itemid=81#46158 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=46158&Itemid=81#46158
it seems that my burst PSU also damaged the main board, so I likely need to get a new one.
That brings to me some thoughts:
I might buy a more recent mainboard and then move to Windows 7 with x64 architecture.

BUT: Which (Intel) processor architecture should I use?
An I5 dual-core might be enough assuming Lightworks spreads its working processes over two processor cores only anyway.
Or does Lightworks (which not many applications do at present time) really fully support working simultaneously over 4 logical CPUs?

The question is important because a decent I5 is significantly cheaper than a medium-class I7

Any advice is highly welcome.]]>

newbie computer specs - by: Smokeyone http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=44854&Itemid=81#44854 http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=21&id=44854&Itemid=81#44854
Would these specs for a new PC be powerful enough to cope - I would just like to import the footage without going through the Canon software straight in to Lightworks -

Core i5 Windows 7 x64 - yes Windows 7 - understand Windows 8 might be more difficult
4GB DDRII Memory
Bluray/DVDRW
Nvidia PCI-E 2 GB DVI/HDMI
OCZ 240GB SSD Drive and Ghost OS
USB 3.0 PCI-E Card

It would be really good just to be able to import in to Lightworks without converting the format.
Thanks in advance for any advice....]]>
