Produced by Peter Bridgman, a long-time professional Lightworks user, this 10-part tutorial series aims to equip the new user with an understanding of the basics of setting up a project, creating an edit and exporting the finished result.

Part 1 - Creating a Project

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn to how to choose project settings and setup your project including how to change the output format.

Part 2 - Importing Media Files

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn to how to get your video/sound media into Lightworks ready for editing using the two methods available, Import and Batch Import.

Part 3 - Organising Your Project

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn to how to utiltise the functionality of the Lightworks Bins and Racks and we’ll discuss different ways of displaying and managing the contents of your project.

Part 4 - Searching in the Project

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn to how to use the real power of the Search tool as we use information that was added to the clips to do a number of project-wide searches.

Part 5 - Playing Media

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn to how to play your media using both the Onscreen Console and the keyboard shortcut assignments.

Part 6 - Basic Editing

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn to how to create a new edit, and find out how to use the four editing functions on the onscreen console – Replace, Insert, Delete and Remove.

Part 7 - Trimming on the Timeline

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn how to use the Lightworks trimming functions and see the real beauty and simplicity of Lightworks editing on the timeline.

Part 8 - Simple Transitions

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn how to make simple real-time transitions on the timeline. By simple transitions, we mean effects that can be done on the video or audio tracks, and don’t require a separate FX track.

Part 9 - Working with Audio

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, we’ll take a closer look at the audio tracks, find out how to add extra tracks for music and sound effects, and see how to set audio levels.

Part 10 - Exporting Your Work

In this Lightworks 11 video tutorial, you'll learn how to export your edit as a file, and we’ll look at further sources of information on Lightworks editing.

Bio: Peter Bridgman

Since the first appearance of Lightworks in the early 1990s, Peter Bridgman has been training film editors, assistants and industry hopefuls in Lightworks editing and nonlinear post-production. He has taught Lightworks courses in London, Glasgow, Dublin, Paris, Antwerp, Koln, Budapest, Ljubljana, Dhaka, Mumbai and Los Angeles. He has also been an occasional tutor at the Short Course Unit in Beaconsfield, Cambridge University Moving Image Studio (CUMIS), the Northern Film School (Leeds Metropolitan University), and BBC Training.

Peter is a graduate of London University and the National Film & Television School, Beaconsfield. At the NFTS he edited a number of films, including the BAFTA award-winning animation Grand National, before going on to write and direct three shorts. The second of these, The Nose, was screened at several international film festivals, winning a Gold Plaque at Chicago.
